The 2025 APPIC Internship Matching Program

Things to Know

  1. Registering for the Match does not constitute an application to any program.
  2. Applications to all programs that participate in the Match must be sent using AAPI, APPIC's application service for psychology internships.
  3. You must register for the Match and enter your 5-digit Match Code Number into AAPI in order to be able to submit applications to internship programs.
  4. You should check the APPIC Directory, as well as each site’s public materials (e.g., website brochure, etc.), for information about each program's application requirements and deadline dates.

Sending Applications Using AAPI

All programs that participate in the Match use AAPI, and you must send applications to programs using this service.

AAPI is a separate and distinct service from the Match, run by a different organization. You must register to use AAPI separately from registering for the Match.

AAPI The APPIC Match
Sends your applications to programs, before the interview and evaluation process. Determines your final placement into a program, after the interview and evaluation process is complete.

If you do not obtain a position in Phase I of the Match, you may participate in Phase II, and you will have an opportunity after the Phase I Match results are released to submit applications using AAPI to programs participating in Phase II.

Match Code Numbers

After you have registered for the Match, you must enter your 5-digit Match Code Number into AAPI before you can submit any applications to programs.

Application Requirements

You should check the APPIC Directory, as well as each site’s public materials (e.g., website brochure, etc.) for information about each program, including its application requirements and deadline dates. All application requirements and interviews must be completed before the deadline for submitting your Rank Order List, ideally before the NMS Match System opens for the entry of Rank Order Lists in each phase of the match in which you are participating.

Internships Participating in the Match

Programs participating in the Match are APPIC members; however, they may be accredited or non-accredited.

Directories

APPIC and the Match maintain separate directories of internship programs that applicants may consult when searching for programs of interest. The two directories serve different purposes.

APPIC Directory Match List of Participating Internships
Content
  • Lists APPIC Member Training Sites
  • Provides detailed information about the Training Site, the positions offered, the application requirements, and application deadline date
  • Lists all internship programs participating in the Match
  • Provides internship names, brief program descriptions, and Match Code Numbers

Applying to Non-Match Internships

Training Sites that are not members of APPIC do not participate in the Match. As a result, some applicants may apply to both participating and non-participating programs. If you are in this situation, you must decide, prior to submitting your Rank Order List, whether to participate in the Match or to pursue positions outside the Match. Only programs that are participating in the Match can be included on your Rank Order List.

If you accept a position at a program that is not participating in the Match, you must withdraw from the Match.
