Things to Know
- Registering for the Match does not constitute an application to any program.
- Applications to all programs that participate in the Match must be sent using AAPI Online, APPIC's application service for psychology internships.
- You should check with each program directly about its application requirements and deadline dates.
- You should enter your 5-digit Match Code Number into the AAPI Online in order to provide your Match Code Number to the programs where you apply.
Sending Applications Using AAPI Online
All programs that participate in the Match use AAPI Online, and you must send applications to programs using this service.
AAPI Online is a separate and distinct service from the Match, run by a different organization. You must register to use AAPI Online separately from registering for the Match.

If you do not obtain a position in Phase I of the Match, you may participate in Phase II, and you will have an opportunity after the Phase I Match results are released to submit applications using AAPI Online to programs participating in Phase II.
Match Code Numbers
After you have registered for the Match, you should enter your 5-digit applicant Match Code Number into the AAPI Online. Programs can access your Match Code Number from your AAPI Online application even if you enter it after you have submitted applications.
All application requirements, including interviews, must be completed prior to the Rank Order List deadline for the Phase of the Match in which you are participating. The Rank Order List deadline for Phase I is February 6, 2019 and the deadline for Phase II is March 18, 2019.
Internships Participating in the Match
Consult the list of participating internships to identify programs offering positions in the Match.
Please note that programs participating in the Match may be accredited or non-accredited, and APPIC-members or non-members. The APPIC Directory Online provides information on internship programs that are APPIC members, and is available to all applicants from the APPIC web site. Information about non-member programs participating in the Match must be obtained directly from the Training Director.
Applying to Non-Match Internships
Some training sites that are not members of APPIC are not participating in the Match. As a result, some applicants may apply to both participating and non-participating programs. If you are in this situation, you must decide, prior to submitting your Rank Order List, whether to participate in the Match or to pursue positions outside the Match. Only programs that are participating in the Match can be included on your Rank Order List.
If you accept a position at a program that is not participating in the Match, you must withdraw yourself from the Match.
