Results For Programs

2019 ORMatch

Match Results

Program Coordinators must log in to the NMS Match System to access their Match result.

Log In to the NMS Match System
  • Match Result Information Available
    • Program Coordinators have access to a PDF report that lists the applicants matched to their program, and indicates whether the program has any unfilled positions. The Director of Residencies at the program's affiliated school or college of optometry also has access to this report.
    • Program Coordinators and Directors of Residencies have access to the result obtained by each applicant who certified a Rank Order List in the Match. Information on applicants who submitted a Rank Order List but were left unmatched is available for download.
    • A list of programs with positions available after the Match is publicly available.
    • Summary statistics of the results of ORMatch are publicly available.

You must send a letter of confirmation of the Match result to the applicants matched to your program as soon as possible and no later than 10 working days after the ORMatch results release date. Applicants must sign and return the letter within 30 days of the ORMatch results release date.

Although NMS makes every effort to provide you with your Match result on the ORMatch results release date, failure to receive your result on that day does not affect your obligation to the applicants matched to your residency site.

In June, ORMatch will send to residency sites updated NBEO Score Report Data for all of their matched applicants.

If an applicant does not honor their Match commitment, report the case to either NMS or ASCO.

Post-Match Process

Beginning at 12:00 p.m noon ET on March 18, 2019, programs with unfilled positions are permitted to seek and fill positions that remain available independently of ORMatch. NMS is not involved in the filling of positions during the Post-Match Process and programs may fill their available positions with applicants that did not register for ORMatch.

Program Coordinators can log into the NMS Match System to access information on applicants who submitted Rank Order Lists but were not matched.

The List of Programs with Available Positions provides applicants with up to date information on available positions. Information on this list may be updated by Program Coordinators using the NMS Match System.

  • Instructions for Updating the List of Programs with Available Positions

Programs must log in to the NMS Match System in order to update their contact information or the number of positions shown on the List of Programs with Available Positions.

Initially, only programs that were left with unfilled positions are shown on the list. All programs that were active in the Match are able to update their information. Programs that did not register, or that registered but withdrew from the Match, are not able to update their information.

    • Updating Contact Information: Changes to contact information are made in the Profile section of the NMS Match System. Contact changes will apply only to the List of Programs with Available Positions, and will not be reflected permanently in NMS records. Permanent changes to contact information after the Rank Order List deadline must be submitted to NMS in writing, not through the NMS Match System.

    • Updating the Number of Available Positions: The number of Post-Match positions available can be changed from the Program Dashboard. Programs can be added to the List by setting the number of available positions to a number greater than zero, or removed from the List by setting the number of available positions to zero.

The system will close for updates on May 31, 2019.

If a program fills a position in the Post-Match Process, the program may request that NMS include the NBEO scores for the newly appointed applicant in the distribution of NBEO scores for matched applicants, which takes place in June. In order for the request to be granted, the program must notify NMS of the filled position and the newly appointed applicant must confirm their acceptance of the position with NMS. The deadline to complete this request and confirmation process is May 31, 2019.
