Withdraw from the MedPhys Match

The 2026 MedPhys Match

Things to Know

If you accept a position at a residency that is not participating in the MedPhys Match, or if you do not plan to submit any rankings, you must withdraw from the MedPhys Match by the Rank Order List deadline.

Withdrawing notifies NMS that you will not take part in the Matching Process. It does not affect your eligibility to seek a position in the Post-Match Process or to participate in the MedPhys Match a future year. However, applicants who withdraw remain bound by the Applicant Agreement and MedPhys Match Rules.

Withdrawn applicants will not be matched to a position and any Rank Order List they may have submitted will not be used in the Matching Process. They will also stop receiving email reminders and notifications from NMS. Programs will see the withdrawn status in the NMS Match System.

If you still wish to pursue a position through the Post-Match Process, you may do so once the Matching Process results are released at 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time on March 27, 2026. To be included on the List of Unmatched Applicants that is shared with programs, you must withdraw in the NMS Match System and select the option indicating you are still seeking a position.

If you decide to re-enter the Matching Process before the Rank Order List deadline, you may reinstate yourself in the NMS Match System without having to execute another Applicant Agreement.

Implications of Withdrawing

  • You will not be matched to a position in the Matching Process
  • Any rankings you may have submitted will not be used
  • You remain bound by the Applicant Agreement and MedPhys Match Rules.
  • You will stop receiving reminders and notifications about the MedPhys Match.
  • Programs will see your withdrawn status in the NMS Match System
  • You will have access and can participate in the Post-Match Process

If you do not withdraw by the Rank Order List deadline and certify a Rank Order List, your list will be included in the Matching Process. If matched, you will be obligated to accept the position and attend the program per the Applicant Agreement and MedPhys Match rules.
