Results & Post-Match

Match Day

  • I will be unavailable to receive emails the day results are released.

If you will be unable to receive email or access your residency's Match results online on the Match Results Day, you can provide a written and signed request to NMS on residency letterhead to send the email of the results to an alternate contact.

The alternate email will not replace the email currently on file in the NMS Match System. All account and residency contact information will remain the same.

The alternate contact will receive an email with the Match results. NMS will send the result to only one email address for each residency.

  • Why do I have to wait to get the results?

NMS spends time between the Rank Order List deadline and Match Results Day checking and re-checking the data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the Match results. Before we can process the Match, we look for potential errors or mistakes in the rankings submitted by applicants and programs. We are able to catch some (but not all) errors, and it does take a significant amount of time to reach these participants to follow-up, verify, and correct these mistakes. Program Directors and applicants are generally busy and can be very difficult to reach. We then have to run the matching algorithm and prepare the results for distribution via the various channels. While it may seem like it takes a long time to get your result, we are able to deliver the results in a time frame that is equal to or less than that of other matching programs of comparable (or even smaller) size in other professions.

  • Why can't I contact the applicants matched to my program until 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Match Results Day?

We send applicants and programs their results by email before 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time. However, due to unreliable email exchanges and inbound message handling, we cannot guarantee the time of delivery.

We ask that applicants and programs wait until 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time before contacting each other to ensure that all participants have an opportunity to obtain their results online through the NMS Match System if they did not receive the email.

  • Can I get a copy of my Rank Order List?

Your program's Rank Order List is available in the NMS Match System for viewing and printing until the day after the Match results are released for for each Phase of the Match. You are strongly encouraged to print a copy of your Rank Order List for your residency's records before it is removed from the NMS Match System.

  • Can I get a copy of my results?

An email containing your results is emailed to you on the Match Results Day. Your results are also available online in the NMS Match System until May 31, 2024. You are strongly encouraged to save a copy of the result notification for your residency's records before it is removed from the NMS Match System.

Post-Match Process

  • How does the Post-Match Process work?

Following release of the Phase II Match results, programs with unfilled positions are permitted to seek and fill their positions that remain available independently of the Match. NMS is not involved in the filling of positions during the Post-Match Process.

Beginning at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time on April 10, 2024, registered applicants who did not obtain a position in either Phase of the Match will be able to access a list of programs with positions available in the Post-Match Process. On April 11, 2024, programs will get access to a list of applicants who certified a Rank Order List but did not obtain a position.

The recommended date for programs with available positions to begin making offers to applicants during the Post-Match Process is April 17, 2024.

  • How do I remove or add positions in the Post-Match Process?

    After Phase I

Programs with unfilled positions in Phase I of the Match will offer those positions to unmatched applicants in Phase II of the Match. New programs or positions that receive funding after Phase I of the Match may be added into Phase II of the Match.

Programs participating in Phase II can log into the NMS Match System to update the number of positions to be offered in Phase II.

    After Phase II

After Phase II of the Match is completed, a list of programs that did not fill all their positions in the Match is made available to applicants who are still seeking positions.

Programs must log into the NMS Match System in order to update the information shown on the List of Programs with Available Positions.

    Remove Positions
    • Log into the NMS Match System
    • Select the Edit button in the Positions Available in Post-Match section of the Program Dashboard
    • Use the drop-down menu to select the number of positions still available in your program
    • Press Submit

If you set the number of positions available to zero, the program will be removed from the list that is provided to unmatched applicants. You should also close your program in the PhORCAS WebAdmit system.

    Add Positions
    • Log into the NMS Match System
    • Select the Edit button in the Positions Available in Post-Match section of the Program Dashboard
    • Use the drop-down menu to select the number of positions available in your program
