Match result notification emails have been sent to all applicants and programs that submitted Rank Order Lists. If you have not received your Match result email, log in to the NMS Match System and access your match result online.
Programs must send letters of confirmation of the GC Admissions Match result to their matched applicants within 10 working days of the release of the results. Programs that did not fill all of their available positions can offer those positions in the Post-Match Process. Unmatched applicants seeking positions should contact programs directly.

EventInformation on the Post-Match Process
Genetic counseling programs accredited by the ACGC work together to try to ensure that as many qualified candidates as possible are admitted to programs each year.
Programs with unfilled positions are permitted to offer those positions to unmatched applicants through the Post-Match Process. Please note that NMS is not involved in the Post-Match Process.
The Post-Match Process will remain open until May 31, 2026.
Viewing Available Positions
Unmatched applicants can log into the NMS Match System to view a list of programs with available positions. The list may include both programs that participated in the Match that have open slots, and programs that obtained ACGC accreditation after March 15, 2026 that have chosen to participate in the 2026 Post-Match Process. Information on the list may change as positions are filled or new openings become available. Programs may also remove themselves from the list at any point.
Application and Selection Process
Unmatched applicants are encouraged to contact programs they did not previously apply to if they are still interested in being considered for admission.
Programs can log into the NMS Match System to access a list of unmatched applicants and review their information. Programs may request that unmatched applicants:
- Submit a new application, supporting materials, and participate in an interview
- Provide permission to contact programs where they previously interviewed.
While participation in the Post-Match Process does not guarantee admission, several applicants are successfully placed through this process each year.
After May 31, 2026
If a position that was offered in the Match becomes available after and before the university’s enrollment deadline for the 2026- 2027 academic year, the program may request approval from GCEA to fill the position.
Applicants who remain unmatched are welcome to contact programs to learn more about the process of reapplying in a future cycle.

Best PracticesRanking Strategy and Best Practices
When participating in the GC Admissions Match, it's essential to understand how tracks work and follow best practices to optimize your chances of a successful match.
What are Tracks?
Each program offers one or more tracks in the GC Admissions Match. A track refers to a type of position or stream of training at a program (e.g., positions with different financial support, or positions offered at different locations, may be offered as separate tracks).
Applicants must rank, and are matched to, a specific track offered by a program. Similarly, programs submit a Rank Order List for each track they offer, and are matched to applicants listed on the Rank Order list for the track.
Best Practices for Submitting Your Rank Order List
1. Rank All Acceptable Choices
You can rank as many choices as you wish, and submitting a longer Rank Order List won’t reduce your chances of being matched with your top choice. In fact, including more acceptable choices may increase the likelihood of a successful match.
For Applicants:
If you intend to rank a program that is offering more than one track, you should add to your Rank Order List each track for which you are eligible and that you would accept.
Example: If you wish to rank a program offering one track with a scholarship and another without, and you would accept either, you should add both tracks to your Rank Order List, and rank the scholarship track higher than the non-scholarship track.
2. Rank Your Choices According To Your True Preference
You should list the choices in your Rank Order List in order of your true preference, not based on where you believe you are ranked by others. Attempting to “game the system” by ranking strategically rather than in order of your true preference may lead to a worse result for you.
3. Do Not Rank Any Choice That Is Unacceptable
Applicants can only be matched with tracks that are on their Rank Order List. Tracks can only be matched with applicants that are on their Rank Order List. Do not rank any applicant or track that you would not want to match with under any circumstances.
