Interview Notification Begins February 5, 2024

Starting on February 5, 2024, programs may invite applicants to interview. Programs may conduct interviews from February 29, 2024 - June 29, 2024. No interviews may be conducted prior to February 29 or after June 29.

Programs may elect for either virtual or in-person interviews. There should be one declared approach at each institution, either virtual or in-person, and no hybrid combination of both approaches. SSO supports the autonomy of each program to choose the format that best meets their needs and the needs of their fellowship candidates.

Application Deadline is January 19

The application deadline for all programs participating in the SSO Breast Match is January 19, 2024. Applicants will not be able to submit or update applications after this date. However, outstanding reference letters can still be added to a submitted application after this date.

Applicants should not wait until January 19 to submit their applications. Submitting applications early ensures there is time to address any unexpected issues that may arise.

Applications can be submitted before letters of reference are received. Submitted applications will be updated automatically as soon as the letters are received.

Application Tips for Applicants

Here are some tips for preparing and submitting your applications:

1. Add Programs to Your List of Pending Applications
As soon as you find a program of interest, add the program to your list of pending applications in the NMS Match System. The program will be notified of your interest and will have access to your contact information. Some programs may contact you with more information, others may not. You can remove a pending application at any time if you are no longer interested in the program.

2. Allow Sufficient Time to Accommodate Unexpected Delays
We strongly recommend that you allocate more than enough time for each step of the application process (e.g., writing personal statements, requesting references, etc.), and plan to submit each application well before the January 19, 2024 application deadline date. This will enable you to address any unexpected issues that may arise in each step of the application process.

3. Customize Your Application Content
You can prepare and upload multiple personal statements or CVs to the NMS Match System, and send different versions to different programs. Be sure to give each document a unique and descriptive name so that you know which document you are including when you assemble each application.

4. Contact Your Reference Writers
Each application must include between 1 and 5 letters of reference from different reference writers. You may request as many different letters of reference as you wish, and you can attach different letters to each application.

You should let your reference writers know the application deadline date is January 19, 2024, and follow up with any reference writers who have not provided their letters as the application deadline approaches.


You can submit your application before the reference letters have been received. Your application will be updated automatically and the program(s) will be notified as your reference letters are received.

Applicant Registration Now Open

To obtain a Breast Surgical Oncology fellowship position beginning in 2025, applicants must register and participate in the 2024 SSO Breast Match.

The SSO Breast Match is now open for applicants to register and begin preparing applications for programs. Match registration information and instructions are available on the Applicant Registration page of the SSO Breast Match website.

The List of Participating Programs shows the programs participating in the 2025 SSO Breast Match.

Add and Manage Account Users

Program Directors can add new (secondary) users to their accounts in the NMS Match System.

Secondary users can view, manage, and change all program and track information. They will also be copied on emails sent to you from the NMS Match System (e.g., confirmations, reminders, etc.).

This new feature is particularly useful for Program Directors who want to:

• Have a coordinator or assistant enter rankings and manage Match information
• Provide temporary access to an individual to manage the program during an absence (e.g., vacation, maternity leave, etc.)
• Keep other people informed of communications and the training site’s status in the Match.

Program Directors can log in to the NMS Match System and add new users from the Account section.

Program Registration for the 2024 SSO Breast Match is now open.

The Program Director of each eligible program has been sent a personalized link by email to register their program for the 2024 SSO Breast Match. If your program did not receive the registration email, please contact NMS for assistance.
