Dental Match Statistics

Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program for Positions Beginning in 2018

Summary Statistics

Overall, 2128 positions (86.3%) were filled in 2018, which is the highest number of matches in any of the last 15 years of the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program. The number of participating applicants and positions offered increased by 10.5% and 10.9% respectively, driven by the return of Prosthodontic and Periodontic program participation in the Match. The overall increases in the number of participating applicants and the number of positions offered led to increases in the total number of matches, unmatched applicants, and unfilled positions.

Excluding Prosthodontic and Periodontic programs, all other program types saw their applicants pools decrease, as measured by the number of applicants who ranked the program types, to levels similar to pre-2017.

The number of positions offered by OMS, ORTH, and PED programs increased as did the number of unfilled positions in these program types. US GPR, AEGD and ANES programs saw decreases in both the number of positions offered and filled. Canadian GPR programs had an increase in the number of positions offered and filled all their positions in the Match.
