Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program for Positions Beginning in 2024

Match Results

You must log into the NMS Match System to access the Match result for your residency.

  • Match Result Information Available in the NMS Match System
    • A downloadable PDF document which shows the applicants matched to your program(s), as well as the number of positions offered and filled. If your residency offered more than one program in the Match, the results for all your programs are available in a single PDF document accessible from the Dashboard of any program that participated in the Match.
    • A list of all matched applicants, which can be filtered by program type.
    • A downloadable file of information on applicants who either submitted Rank Order Lists but were not matched or withdrew but indicated they were interested in seeking a position in the Post-Match Process. This information is provided for the use of programs with available positions.

You should contact the applicant(s) matched to your residency as soon as possible after 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time on Match Results Day to acknowledge the Match results. You must also send a letter of confirmation to each applicant matched to your residency within 10 days of the release of Match results. Matched applicants must return the letter of confirmation in accordance with your residency's instructions within 30 days of the release of the Match results.

Although NMS makes every effort to provide you with your result on Match Results Day, failure to receive your result on that day does not affect your obligation to the applicants matched to your residency.

Statistics

Post-Match Process

Unmatched applicants are permitted to seek positions and programs are permitted to fill positions that remain available independently of the Dental Match.

A List of Programs with Available Positions is provided to applicants in the NMS Match System. Programs that participated in the Match can log into the NMS Match System to update the information shown on the list, including institution contact information and the number of positions available in each program (see instructions below). Programs also have access to information on applicants who either submitted Rank Order Lists but were not matched or withdrew but indicated they were interested in seeking a position in the Post-Match Process.

Unmatched applicants seeking positions that remain available are instructed to contact programs directly for more information.

  • Updating information on the List of Programs with Available Positions

Programs must log into the NMS Match System to update their contact information or the number of positions available.

Initially, only programs that were left with unfilled positions and did not indicate that they wanted to be excluded from the Post-Match Process will be shown on the list. All programs that were active in the Match are able to update their information. Programs that did not register, or that registered but withdrew from the Match, are not able to update their information.

    • Updating Contact Information: Changes to contact information are made in the Profile section of the NMS Match System. Contact changes will apply only to the List of Programs with Available Positions and will not be reflected permanently in NMS records. Permanent changes to contact information after the Rank Order List deadline must be submitted to NMS in writing, not through the NMS Match System.

    • Updating the Number of Available Positions: Programs can increase or decrease the number of Post-Match positions available from the Program Dashboard. Any position that is added into the Post-Match Process will be included in the total number of positions offered by the program for purposes of calculating the Match fee for the program.

Updates do not appear in real time, but are made frequently to ensure that the information provided to applicants is as current as possible. The system will close for updates on April 15, 2024.

    Fees for Adding Positions

Each program that registers for the Match is charged a fee that varies depending on the number of positions offered, as specified in the Residency Agreement. Any position that was not offered in the Match but is added to a program in the Post-Match Process will be included in the total number of positions offered by the program for purposes of calculating the program's final Match fee.

For example, suppose a program initially offers 3 positions in the Match. If the program fills all the positions in the Match, the program will not be included initially on the List of Programs with Available Positions. If the program then adds a position into the Post-Match Process, the program will be added to the List of Programs with Available Positions, and the final Match fees charged to the program for the 2024 Match will be based on a total of 4 positions offered.

There will be no additional charge to programs for updating their contact information or removing positions from the List of Programs with Available Positions.
