Applicants Help - Application and Ranking Issues

2020 ORMatch

Do I need to pay to submit applications?

Your ORMatch registration fee provides you with 10 credits to send applications to residencies. Each credit allows you to send one application to one residency, regardless of the number of programs or tracks offered by that residency. If the residency is offering more than one program in ORMatch, you can specify in your application which programs you are interested in.

If you want to send an application to more than 10 residencies, you will have to purchase additional credits at a cost of $25 USD per credit.

How can I get my OD transcript?

Some schools allow their students to download a transcript from their student portal. Others may require that you obtain a physical copy of the transcript from the registrar's office. You can then scan the physical copy of your transcript to a PDF document.

Ensure that the transcript you upload to the NMS Match System is not password protected.

How do I create a PDF document?

Many word processing programs (e.g., Word, Google Docs, Wordperfect, Pages, etc.) will allow you to save a document directly to PDF. Alternatively, there are free online tools that you can use or software you can download to generate PDF files. Use a google search to get you pointed in the right direction.

How do I remove security features from a transcript PDF document?

If you receive an official PDF transcript with security features the easiest way to remove them is to open it and "print to PDF". You can open the document in a browser (i.e., Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Microsoft) and choose Print ->Save to PDF. Alternatively, you can physically print the PDF and scan it. There are also some online services that will remove security features for you.

Some transcripts may have special watermarks that say "Printed Copy" when the security features are removed. That is acceptable for the ORMatch Application Service.

Why does the system say my uploaded PDF is incompatible?

When you submit an application, the ORMatch Application Service takes your uploaded documents and merges them together to create a single consolidated file for residencies to download.

While the system support PDFs up to version 1.7, some PDFs have special features or characteristics that cannot be seamlessly merged with other PDF documents. If you receive an error stating that your PDF is incompatible, it means your document has some of these special features or characteristics.

This issue can be resolved by converting your document to a different PDF version. There are many free online tools that can do this for you. Converting your document to PDF version 1.4 (Adobe Acrobat 5) will remove all special features from your document, and will ensure your PDF is compatible.

Alternatively, you can take a picture of your document and create a PDF from that image.

If you continue to have issues with your document, contact us.

What do I do if one of my reference letters won't be received in time?

  • Select the Edit button next to the reference letter that will not be received

I can't find the residency where I want to apply.

You can only send applications using the NMS Match System to residencies that are registered for ORMatch. Consult the List of Participating Programs or the Residency Selection List in the {[param.NMSmid}} to ensure the residency is registered for ORMatch.

Each residency offers one or more programs in the Match. A program refers to a type of position or stream of training at a residency (e.g., positions offered at different locations or with a different area of emphasis may be offered as separate programs). If the residency is offering more than one program in ORMatch, you can specify in your application which programs you are interested in.

If the residency is not included in the List of Participating Programs, contact the Program Coordinator directly to clarify the residency's participation status in ORMatch.

I do not intend to submit a Rank Order List. What do I need to do?

If you do not intend to submit a Rank Order List you must withdraw from the Match. The deadline to withdraw from the Match is March 6, 2020

What are the implications of withdrawing?

If you withdraw, you will be displayed to residency sites within the NMS Match System as withdrawn. You will not be matched to a position and you will not be included on the List of Unmatched Applicants provided to programs for the Post-Match Process. Any rankings of programs you may have submitted will not be used in the Match. You will also not receive further communication about participating in the Match from NMS. However, you will still have access to the List of Programs with Available Positions for the Post-Match Process.

Please Note: Withdrawing from the Match does not affect your eligibility to participate in the Match in future years.

The program I want to rank is withdrawn.

You should leave the withdrawn program ranked on your list. If you leave the program on your list and the program's participation status in the Match becomes Active before the Rank Order List deadline, that ranking will be used in the Match. If the program remains withdrawn, that ranking will not be used in the Match, and your list will be processed as if you had not ranked the withdrawn program.

Can I change my rankings after certifying my list?

Yes. Even if you have already certified your Rank Order List, you can return at any time to make changes until the Rank Order List deadline.

If you make changes to a list after it is certified, the list will become uncertified and you will have to re-certify the list prior to the Rank Order List deadline in order for it to be used in the Match.

Can I view my Rank Order List after the deadline?

You will be able to view your Rank Order List until 4 days after the ORMatch results are released. However, you will not be able to change any information or certify a Rank Order List in the NMS Match System after the Rank Order List deadline.
