Site Registration Opens: Registration emails for participation in the Extern Match are sent to Primary Contacts at sites, who must complete the online registration process. |
| November 24, 2025 | Recommended Site Registration and Profile Completion: All sites should be registered and have completed their profile in the Extern Match Portal by this date. |

Site Directory Published: By this date, a Directory of Participating Sites will be posted on this website. Applicant Registration Opens: Registration opens for applicants. Prior to registering, applicants should review the information in the Applicant Registration section of this website. Applicants must be registered for the Extern Match in order to send applications to sites. Application Service Opens: The Application Service opens for registered applicants and sites. Instructions for using the Application Service are available. Sites must be registered for the Extern Match in order to receive applications from applicants. |

Application Deadline: This is the application deadline date for all sites participating in the Extern Match. Applications must be submitted before 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on this date. No registrations or applications can be submitted after this date. |

Interview Invitations Open: Sites can begin sending interview invitations to applicants using the Extern Match Portal starting on this date. |

Rankings Open: Applicants and sites may begin to enter and certify their Rank Order Lists for the matching process using the Extern Match Portal. |

Interview Invitations End: All interview scheduling must be finalized by this date. |

Final Day for Interviews: All interviews must be completed by this date. |

Rank Order List Deadline: All Rank Order Lists must be entered and certified by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. No Rank Order Lists or withdrawals can be submitted in the Extern Match Portal after this deadline. |

Match Results Day: Results of the Extern Match are released to applicants and sites. No action to fill positions remaining unfilled after the matching process is to be taken prior to 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time. Post-Match Process Begins: Starting at 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time, a list of sites with available positions is provided to unmatched applicants. Registered applicants who are not matched may send applications to sites with available positions using the Extern Match Portal. Information on registered applicants who may still be seeking a position is provided to sites. Sites and applicants are free to contact each other, share information, and conduct interviews. Sites may not make offers for Post-Match positions, and applicants may not accept offers from sites, prior to 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time on April 14, 2026. |
| April 14, 2026 | Post-Match Offer Day: Starting at 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time, sites may offer Post-Match positions to any individual who was not matched to a position, and unmatched applicants may accept offers from sites. |
| April 30, 2026 | System Closes: The Extern Match Portal closes for applicants and sites at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Applicants and sites must download their Extern Match information by this date. |
