Results & Post-Match

Match Results Day

  • How do I get my matching process result?

Results will be available in the Extern Match Portal starting at 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time on Match Results Day. You will also be sent an email with your result before 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time on Match Results Day. However, due to unreliable inbound message server handling, we cannot guarantee a time of delivery.

  • Why do I have to wait to get the results?

NMS spends the time between the Rank Order List deadline and the Match Results Day checking and re-checking the data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the matching process results. Before we can process the Match, we look for potential errors or mistakes in the rankings submitted by applicants and sites. We are able to catch some (but not all) errors, and it does take a significant amount of time to reach these participants to follow-up, verify, and correct these mistakes. Site contacts and applicants are generally busy and can be very difficult to reach. We then have to run the matching algorithm and prepare the results for distribution via the various channels.

Unmatched Applicants

Post-Match Process

  • What is the Post-Match Process?

The Post-Match Process is the period after release of the Match results when sites with unfilled positions will try to fill those positions with applicants who did not obtain a position in the Match.

  • How does the Post-Match Process work?

The Post-Match Process begins at 12:00 p.m. noon Eastern Time on March 31, 2026. From March 31, 2026 to April 30, 2026, participating sites may fill unfilled positions only with unmatched applicants from NYNJADOT and PENDELDOT academic programs. No offers may be made or accepted before April 14, 2026.

After April 30, 2026, any remaining positions may be offered directly to any applicant, including those not enrolled in NYNJADOT or PENDELDOT programs.

During the Post-Match Process, sites, applicants, and academic programs may communicate freely, exchange information, and conduct interviews. Unmatched applicants who registered for the Extern Match may apply to participating sites through the Extern Match Portal. Eligible applicants who did not register must apply directly to sites.

Sites may update their Directory listings and may remove themselves from the list of available positions as positions are filled.

There is no additional ranking or matching algorithm during this period. Offers must be made directly by email to the applicant, with the applicant's DCT copied.
