Registration Process

• How do I register for Extern Match?

  You should contact the Director of Clinical Training at your academic program to get permission to register for the Extern Match. Confirm with them that you meet all requirements and should register to participate. There is a non-refundable fee to register for the Extern Match.

• When is the registration deadline?

  You must be registered for the Extern Match in order to send applications to sites using the Extern Match Portal. You must register and submit your applications to sites by January 23, 2026. The final deadline to register to participate is January 23, 2026.

Fees

• What does it cost to participate in the Extern Match?

  There is a fee of $100 USD to register for the Extern Match. This fee pays for your Extern Match registration and for the first 12 applications you send to sites. An additional fee of $15 USD will apply for each application submitted in excess of 12.

  All Extern Match fees are non-refundable (even if you subsequently decide to withdraw from the Extern Match) and are not transferable to future years or other applicants.

  Applicants who register for Extern Match but do not obtain a position in the matching process do not have to register again or pay an additional fee to participate in the Post-Match Process.

• Can I get a refund of my registration fee?

  No. As stated in the Participant Agreement and on the payment pages, Extern Match fees are non-refundable, non-transferable, and irrevocable. They cannot be refunded, transferred to another person, or used for another year.

Account & Login

• What login credentials do I use?

  Log into the Extern Match Portal using the email address and password you set up when registering for the Extern Match. If you have changed your email or password in the Extern Match Portal since registering, use those new values to log in.

• How do I reset my password?

  If you do not know your password, use the "Forgot Password?" link located on the Extern Match Portal Login page.

• Where do I find my Support PIN for the Extern Match Portal?

  The support PIN can be found on your Account Page of the Extern Match Portal. Log in to the Extern Match Portal and choose Account from the menu.

  The support PIN is a secret number that you can use to verify your identity and ownership of the account when you contact NMS support. The PIN must be 6 digits and may not begin with a zero.

• How do I find my Match Code Number?

  Your Match Code Number is shown in the Extern Match Portal:

  • Log in to the Extern Match Portal
  • Select the Profile section on the Dashboard
  • Your Match Code Number will be found at the top of the page

Withdraw

• What are the implications of withdrawing from the Extern Match?

  If you withdraw, you will not be matched to a position. Any rankings you may have submitted will not be used in the matching process. You will also not receive further communication about participating in the Extern Match from NMS. However, you will still have access to information on positions available in the Post-Match Process.

  Applicants who withdraw from the Extern Match will be displayed to sites within the Extern Match Portal as withdrawn.

  Withdrawing from the Extern Match does not effect your eligibility to participate in the Post-Match Process, or to participate in the Extern Match in future years.
