Things to Know
If you will not be submitting a Rank Order List, you must withdraw yourself from the Extern Match by the Rank Order List deadline. Consult with your DCT before withdrawing.
Withdrawing from the Match simply informs NMS that you will not participate in the matching process. It does not affect your status with your Academic Program and has no impact on your ability to participate in the Extern Match in a future year.
If you withdraw from the Extern Match, but then change your mind and decide you want to participate, you can reinstate yourself at any time prior to the Rank Order List deadline.
Implications of Withdrawing
- You will not be matched to a position.
- Any rankings you submitted for the matching process will not be used.
- Sites will see your withdrawn status in the Extern Match Portal
- You will stop receiving reminders and notifications about the Extern Match.
If you withdraw, you will be permitted to seek positions in the Post-Match Process and will have access to information on positions available in the Post-Match Process.
How to Withdraw
To withdraw yourself from the Extern Match using the Extern Match Portal:
- Log in to the Extern Match Portal when it is available
- Select Edit from the Status section of the Dashboard
- Select a reason for your withdrawal and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.
Reinstating Yourself to Participate in the Extern Match
If you withdraw but subsequently decide to submit rankings for the matching process, you can reinstate yourself through the Extern Match Portal prior to the Rank Order List deadline.
To reinstate yourself in the Extern Match:
- Log in to the Extern Match Portal when it is available
- Select Edit from the Status section of the Dashboard
- Follow the instructions provided on the screen to complete the reinstatement process.
