In order to register for the Extern Match, you must agree to the match terms set by National Matching Services Inc. and follow the policies set by NYNJADOT & PENDELDOT. You should review this information before registering.

Learn About Sending Applications to Sites
You apply to sites using the Extern Match Portal. You should check with each site as soon as possible regarding their application requirements. Required components of your Extern Match application include: personal and educational information; a PDF Cover Letter, CV, and DCT Verification Letter; as well as up to three letters of reference dependent on site requirements.
Fee
There is a fee of $100 USD to register for the Extern Match.
The fee pays for your Extern Match registration and for the first twelve (12) applications you send to sites using the Application Service. An additional fee of $15 USD will apply for each application submitted in excess of twelve.
Fees are non-refundable (even if you subsequently decide to withdraw from the Extern Match) and are not transferable to future Matches or other applicants.
Timing
You must be registered for the Extern Match in order to send applications to sites using the Application Service. You must register and submit your applications to sites by January 23, 2026, which is the application deadline date for all sites.
The final deadline to register to participate is March 24, 2026. However, sites consider applications and conduct interviews much earlier than that date. Therefore, you should register well before the final date listed above.

After You Register
Confirmation and Match Code Number
When your registration is completed, you will receive a confirmation by email that includes the 5-digit Match Code Number assigned to you for the Extern Match. Use your Match Code Number in all future correspondence pertaining to the Extern Match.
Updating Your Information
Once registered for the Extern Match, you can log into the Extern Match Portal to update your account and profile information. You can also start preparing and submitting applications to sites.
