Research Sites of Interest

The Site Directory on this website identifies all sites that registered for the Extern Match. A list of sites with positions available in the Post-Match Process is available in the Extern Match Portal.

Tip: If you are interested in a site with an available position you previously applied to, you do not need to submit a new application as the site will continue to have access to your original materials. However, you should contact the site directly to indicate your interest in being reconsidered.

2

Prepare Your Application Materials

Gather Your Applicant Information

Some of your Extern Match registration information is prepopulated into your application. You will need to provide additional information to complete your application.

Compose a Cover Letter and CV

A Cover Letter and CV must be included with each application you submit. You can customize your Cover Letter and CV for each site if you wish. You should start working on those documents as soon as possible and upload them to the Extern Match Portal in PDF format when they are complete.

Obtain a DCT Verification Letter

A DCT Verification Letter must be included in each application you submit. You must obtain a copy of your Verification Letter from your DCT and upload it to the Extern Match Portal in PDF format.

Get Email Addresses for Your Reference Letter Writers

If you intend to include reference letters in your application, you need to obtain the email addresses for your letter writers and submit a reference request for each letter through the Extern Match Portal. Your chosen reference writers will upload their letters directly into the Extern Match Portal.

Prepare Other Documents and Supplemental Material

Review the Site Directory for information on each site's application requirements. If any details are unclear or missing, contact the site directly for further information. Some sites may request additional materials such as a Deidentified Assessment Report, Case Summary, Transcript, or other Supplemental Material. You will need to upload these materials to the Extern Match Portal and include them with each application where they are required.

3

Submit an Application

Your Extern Match registration fee provides you with 12 credits to send applications to sites. Each credit allows you to send one application to one site, regardless of the number of tracks offered by that site. If a site offers more than one track in the Extern Match, you can specify the tracks you are interested in when you submit your application.

If you want to send applications to more than 12 sites, you will have to pay an additional fee of $15 USD per application.

You do not need to send all applications at once. You can send 1 application on one day and 5 applications the next day.

You must select which of your uploaded documents and reference letters to include with each application. Once an application is submitted to a site, the core components of the submitted application cannot be changed or withdrawn. You will be able to update Supplemental Material after an application has been submitted, so any corrections to application information can be included as Supplemental Material.

Once you submit an application, the site will have access to your application information immediately.

Although you must select the specific reference letters to include at the time of submission, the letters do not need to be received at that point. Selected reference letters will be added to the application automatically when they are received. You are responsible for monitoring the status of any outstanding reference letters and following up with the reference writer appropriately.
