Frequently Asked Questions by Applicants

Some useful FAQs are shown below. A more detailed FAQ that includes information on entering your rankings and other aspects of the NMS Match System will be posted here by November 20, 2018.

Your Match Information and Status

What if I don't know my password or Match Code Number?

If you do not know your password, select the option for Log in to NMS Match System from the menu on the left side of the page. A Forgot Your Password link is provided on that page that will enable you to reset your password.

To view your Match Code Number, Log in to the NMS Match System and select Profile from the menu. Your Match Code Number is listed at the top of the Profile page.

How can I withdraw from the Match?

If you decide not to submit any rankings of programs for the Match you must withdraw yourself from the Match online by the Rank Order List deadline (January 18, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. ET).

Note: Applicants who withdraw from the Match will not be matched to a position. However, withdrawn applicants are permitted to seek positions after the Match. They will be able to access information from this web site on positions that remain available after the Match.

Log in to the NMS Match System. The Dashboard that is displayed after you log in will show your current status in the Match. Select Edit from the Status section of the Dashboard and follow the instructions provided to complete the withdrawal process. As part of the withdrawal process, you will be asked to provide a reason for withdrawing by selecting from a predefined set of choices.

If you withdraw, any rankings of programs you may have submitted will not be used in the Match. If you submit and certify any rankings of participating programs and you do not withdraw prior to the Rank Order List deadline, your rankings will be used in the Match. If you are matched with a program, you must accept the position with which you are matched, as described in the Applicant Agreement.

If I have previously withdrawn, how can I be reinstated in the Match?

If you withdraw but subsequently decide to submit rankings of programs for the Match, you can reinstate yourself online prior to the Rank Order List deadline (January 18, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. ET).

To reinstate yourself, Log in to NMS Match System. Select Edit from the Status section of the Dashboard and follow the instructions provided to complete the reinstatement process.

What do I do if I have been assigned to a military position?

If you have been assigned to a position in a military program, you must not submit any choices of programs for the Match. However, you must inform NMS of your military position by January 18, 2019 by withdrawing yourself from the Match in the NMS Match System.

Log in to the NMS Match System. The Dashboard that is displayed after you log in will show your current status in the Match. Select Edit from the Status section of the Dashboard and follow the instructions provided to complete the withdrawal process. As part of the withdrawal process, you will be asked to provide a reason for withdrawing by selecting from a predefined set of choices, which will include a list of military training sites. You must indicate the military training site to which you have been assigned by selecting that site as your reason for withdrawing.
